What is it about?

Abnormal liver function tests and the size of the common bile duct (CBD ) are well known predictors of CBD stone. however, the size of the cystic duct(CD) is another obvious predictor of CBD stone that is often ignored .a wider CD is more likely to let a stone to pass through to the CBD. our retrospective study found that 55.2% of those with wide CD have CBD stone obstruction compared with 1% for those with narrow CD

Why is it important?

the study detrmine the importance of looking at the size of the cystic duct ,both pre and intra operativly when assissing the possiblity of a stone in common bile duct

Perspectives

I hope this study stimulate further prospective studies that measures the size of the CD both during opearion and preoperativly and then compare it to the presence of stone in CBD with and without CBD obstruction
