What is it about?

It is a chronic inflammatory and suppurative condition of the perianal region and skin bearing apocrine glands, more dominant in males and manifesting as chronic micro-abscesses, fistulas and multifocal infections. Malignant change is an uncommon complication and needs to be considered in prolonged extra-axillary HS.

Why is it important?

Due to high malignant potential associated with HS.

Perspectives

If malignant changes appeared which need aggressive surgical such as exenteration may be required. That's why we suggest that early radical excision should be offered to all patients with extensive perianal HS to prevent recurrence.
