What is it about?

Here we explain some of the difficulties scholars outside central Mexico experience when they work in Mexican public universities, from the point of view of two anthropologists who are professors in Yucatan.

Why is it important?

Universities are now changing from academic to corporate-driven goals everywhere. Mexico is no exception, and the Autonomous University of Yucatan is considered one of the leaders of the new tendencies. Mexico is a very centralized country and most resources go to Mexico City and a few surrounding states. Many challenges result from all this, in terms of being an academic outside that core geographical region.
