What is it about?
Invasive species, such as rats, are one of the lead causes of extinction in birds in Pacific Islands. We show for the first time how even in interior forest where birds were thought to be safe from rats they are being eaten. However, in areas near plantations rat predation is even higher.

Why is it important?
Our results show how maintaining large forest patches may not be sufficient to maintain pacific island bird species. Instead pest control might be required to stop the current declines.
Perspectives
We know amazingly little about birds in the South Pacific and their threats. My paper is a call to action to save the forest species which are declining fast and occur no where else in the world.
