What is it about?

The dopamine transporter gene DAT1 (SLC6A3) has been suggested to play a role in both depression and specific personality traits. Using five polymorphisms of DAT1 in 463 patients with major depression (MD) , we found evidence of lower novelty seeking score (NS) in early-onset MD patients with the G/G genotype of rs2550948 and the T/T genotype of rs2975226, compared to patients with other genotypes.

Why is it important?

Our study suggests that the DAT1 promoter variants possible influence specific personality traits in early-onset subgroup of depressed patients among Han Chinese population. Further prospective cohort studies are required to verify our preliminary finding and to confirm the effects of personality susceptibility on long-term disease outcomes.

Perspectives

I think this article add an interesting topic of the association of DAT1 and personality traits to the literature.
