Why is it important?

The paper summarizes many key considerations affecting the going public private decision. We provide a review of the international literature on IPOs and M&A, and stress Canadian contributions to this field of research. By summarizing and classifying the literature, we provide support for those who have an interest in understanding the field, and we also identify areas of potential future research to assist researchers.

Perspectives

Working on this paper provided a great opportunity to get the "lay of the land" for several related fields of research. By focusing on owner-managed firms, those backed by venture capital, firms going public via an IPO, and those involved in M&A activities at all stages ... it was an excellent chance to see gaps in the research and where the best future research opportunities lie!
