Why is it important?

The article is timely in that the UN Conferennce on Climate change in Paris will convene in December 2015 in which all nations will be expected to make proposals to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Agriculture and forestry and related land use change contributes around 25% of emissions, and livestock production contributes around 55% of agricultural emissions.

Perspectives

The article not only addresses issues of global greenhouse gas emissions from future livestock production, but also reviews some of the key elements underlying long term regional forecasts of meat demand growth to future population, income and price changes in the framework of international trade .
