Why is it important?
We need a richer conception of liberty involving ideas of empowerment in the face of dominant structures of power. My book contributes to this conversation
Perspectives
I began this book by reading the books of Quentin Skinner who is an advocate of what is known as 'classical' or 'republican' liberty. My thinking has also been influenced by the ideas of Phillip Pettit. I see my role as helping to contribute to political theory for the 21st century. In addition I am interested in exploring and developing links between disciplines - in this case between political theory and educational theory.
