What is it about?

A review of Thomas Piketty's 'Capital and Ideology' for The Political Quarterly. Piketty's first huge project, 'Capital In The Twentieth Century' assembled and analysed statistical evidence for economic inequality throughout recorded history. Now in this new volume he applies the same meticulous research methodology to the different ways people have justified economic inequality throughout history, taking him into the realm of political economy.

Why is it important?

It's important as a contribution to a much needed refurbishment of the theory of social democratic politics.

Perspectives

It took a great deal of effort to absorb this massive book, but it changed my own understanding of contemporary politics in a very substantial way
