Lilla is an expert on reactionary thinkers, and the rise of the Alt Right in the USA makes this a very topical book
Perspectives
I have admired Lilla's work for the New York Review for a decade or more, in fact ever since writing my own book "Cool Rules" (with the late David Robins). Lilla's question - how has US popular culture arrived at a condition that combines social liberalism with economic conservatism - was one of our own guiding questions.
