What is it about?
bHLH transcription factor Crf1 is a regulatory factor of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism in the rice blast fungus. Crf1 positively regulates lipid degradation, β-oxidation, glyoxylate cycle, gluconeogenesis and glycerol metabolism. Crf1 is required for the utilization of several carbon sources, such as glycerol, ethanol, arabinose and leucine. Crf1 is also required for conidial cell death and fungal virulence on rice.

Why is it important?
Our findings show that the carbon metabolism is cooperatively regulated by both Crf1 positively and CreA negatively in the fungus.
