What is it about?
There are scientists that claim to be able to find and monitor oil in deep reservoirs by just listening to the Earth vibrations at the surface. This has been proven to be inconsistent theoretically by other papers, and it is shown to be so also in a practical experiment in this paper.

Why is it important?
It this would be true, it could decrease significantly the cost of oil and gas exploration, or for controlling their production. However, in this paper experimental evidence is provided that this expectation is WRONG. Thus, it may help saving money in a technique that is inconclusive.
Perspectives
I hope that, after several years of theoretical debates, this experimental evidence will stop further wastes of time and money for such a "method".
