What is it about?
1. We propose a fully three-dimensional edge-finite-element algorithm for simulating CSEM surveys. 2. We compare the performance between direct and iterative solvers. 3. The results show the superior efficiency of direct solvers, particularly for multisource problems.

Why is it important?
It is often assumed that iterative solvers are lighter and more efficient than direct solvers. However, when the coefficient matrix of the governing equation has a poor condition number, as in CSEM, a direct solver can be the better choice. This is especially true given the continuous improvements in computing hardware and sparse matrix computation software.
