What is it about?
Mediatization is a concept concerning societal, political, and cultural changes driven by media technologies. Mediatization research, initiated almost 20 years ago, witnesses at present dynamic developments. It is obtaining a status of one of the most essential and ambitious research fields within the social sciences. Mediatization theory deals with a process in which media communication is becoming increasingly complex, takes place more often, covers a growing number of topics, and lasts longer. The goal of this study is to help to understand the process of mediatization, as well as to make the theory more familiar to non‐media scholars. It presents the most important ideas and the most popular research streams of research, as well numerous examples of mediatization advancement.
