LANDSLIDE MONITORING. Photogrammetric Monitoring of an Artificially Generated Shallow Landslide.

What is it about?

An artificial rainfall event was applied to a forested slope in Ruedlingen, northern Switzerland. The generated artificial landslide was monitored and measured using photogrammetry.

Why is it important?

The photogrammetric method let us compute the 3D velocity vectors which were used in analyzing the mass dynamics.

The surface deformation was quantified by tracking the small tennis balls pegged into the ground, achieving an average 3D point positioning precision of +/- 1.8 cm. The results of the photogrammetric work provide a better understanding of the surface dynamics of landslides.
