What is it about?
The aim of this work is to present single-nucleotide variants of opsins genes in melanocytic tumors. Effects of variants to protein structure were evaluated based on molecular dynamics simulations. Impacts of variants to opsin function were conducted by a site-directed mutagenesis analysis. Of these variants, five missense variants of opsins significantly altered the protein structure and function.

Why is it important?
Providing a new insight for relationship between melanocytic tumors and photoreceptor variants.
Perspectives
Our findings provide valuable insight into the structure– function relationships of skin opsin and direct future studies to get more insights into the role of opsin variants in the loss of function.
