What is it about?
Salinity is a major threat to modern agriculture. Mostly based on research with roots and young seedlings, it is generally assumed that the response to salt stress is accompanied by increases in cytosolic Ca2+ concentration. We uncovered that leaves and roots have tissue specific strategies to overcome detrimental salt stress. Unlike roots, salt transport and detoxification of NaCl in leaves is based on pre-established posttranslational settings and does not depend on Ca2+ signaling.
