What is it about?

Secondary walls of plant stems provide huge mechanical support that enables plant upright growth. Mechanical stress, originated from plant body weight, snow and wind et al., is one of the major factors to trigger plant secondary wall synthesis. We show for the first time that cells can use surface glycoproteins to sense mechanical stimuli to fine-tune secondary wall development.
