Ecological generalism drives hyperdiversity of secondary metabolite gene clusters in xylarialean endophytes

What is it about?

Endophytic fungi inhabit plants and lichens in all ecosystems, but the molecular mechanisms that determine their host range are unknown. Here, we show for the first time that secondary metabolite gene cluster diversity is linked to endophyte host range.
