Oomycete intracellular effectors: specialised weapons targeting strategic plant processes

What is it about?

Plant pathogens, such as the oomycetes, produce molecules called effectors that can counteract the defensive systems of the plants and help the pathogen to generate an adequate niche for its growth and reproduction. This review summarizes the activities that several oomycete intracellular effectors exert over a diverse array of plant target molecules. Studying the molecular and physiological effects of pathogens' effectors on the plants would enable the discovery of new ways to improve plant resistance.
