What is it about?

During germination, the iron that is stored in the vacuoles of the embryo has to be remobilized to sustain growth of the seedling. Here we show that this process requires the transport activity of a new MATE protein, whose role is to load ascorbate in the vacuole, that will catalyse the reduction of ferric iron and promote its efflux from the vacuole.
