What is it about?
Like in all leaves, carbon is fixed and built into sugars in the needles of conifers. Some of these sugars are exported to other parts of the plant where they are needed for growth and development. We show that long conifer needles employ unique mechanisms to enable the efficient export of sugars. The results highlight how sugar transport efficiency can shape the function of leaves.
