Single‐cell analysis clarifies mosaic color development in purple hydrangea sepal

What is it about?

Cell color in purple sepal of hydrangea is mosaic from blue to red. To clarify the color mosaic mechanism we performed single-cell analyses of vacuolar pH, and anthocyanin, co-pigment, and Al3+ content correlated with cell color. The bluer the cell was, the more 5-O-acylquinic acid and aluminum ion contained.
