What is it about?
Hydrotropism allows roots to explore for water in soil. In maize, the tip of the primary root is the most effective in sensing a moisture gradient, triggering complex changes involving auxin and coordinated regulation of cell division and elongation, thus ensuring a rapid change in the direction of root growth towards more moist areas.
