What is it about?
Soil fungi, one of the most ecologically dominant microorganisms, act as mutualists or decomposers to improve the efficiency of ecological functions and influence soil fertility. Using high-throughput sequencing, our results revealed a positive relationship between soil fungal assemblage complexity and soil fertility. We also demonstrated that deterministic processes were the primary mechanisms shaping the soil fungal communities on a regional scale. This study provides new insights that contribute to the predictable manipulation of soil fungal communities to achieve desired improvements in ecosystem services.
