What is it about?

Host plants recognize microbe-associated molecular patterns to activate defense or symbiotic signaling. We report that a lysin motif receptor kinases (MaLYK1) of banana has a dual function in the associations with pathogenic and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. The protein complex formation of MaLYK1 ectodomains can bind to chitin as well as mycorrhizal lipochitooligosaccharides and chitooligosaccharides.
