What is it about?
Molybdenum is an essential micronutrient for human with cereals such as rice as the major dietary source. We identified a gene controlling the molybdenum concentration in rice grains, which may facilitate the development of rice varieties with molybdenum enriched grain for dietary needs.

Why is it important?
The micronutrient deficiencies, also known as 'hidden hunger', is becoming a huge global challenge. The identification of genes that control the accumulation of mineral nutrients in rice grain and use these gene to increase the essential micronutrients in rice grain, which could produce nutritious rice and may help to solve the 'hidden hunger'.
Perspectives
The gene identified in our studies could be used for breeding rice varieties with molybdenum enriched in grain and and improve molybdenum nutrition of rice on molybdenum-deficient soils.
