Imaging microstructure of the barley rhizosphere: particle packing and root hair influences

What is it about?

Soil adjacent to roots has distinct structural and physical properties from bulk soil, affecting water and nutrient uptake by plants. We show that soil porosity near barley roots increases in a finely textured soil due to incomplete packing of soil particles and agglomerates at the root surface.
