What is it about?
Plants often suffer from iron toxicity in acidic and water-logged soils world-wide, and results in big yield loss. We found that toxic Fe triggers NO-SNO1/SOS4 signaling and induces NSCCs-mediated K+ efflux and leads to K+ out-of-balance in root-tip-zone and cell damage. Thus, we may be able to conquer Fe toxicity and increase soil productivity by 1) applying potash fertilizer, 2) applying chemicals to block or weaken the signaling pathway, and 3) breeding plants with lower SNO1/SOS4 activity.
