What is it about?

Savannas -- especially savanna trees -- are highly variable. Predicting how they vary has been a challenge, but an important one for understanding how the biosphere will respond to global change. Progress will depend on a shift in approach: increasing the spatial scale of analysis to large plots and even large landscapes.
