Effector‐mediated discovery of a novel resistance gene against Bremia lactucae in a nonhost lettuce species

What is it about?

Downy mildew is one of the major problems in lettuce cultivation. We show that a completely immune wild lettuce species reacts to downy mildew proteins. However, the wild lettuce genes that are responsible for this reaction to downy mildew proteins are not required for immunity.
