What is it about?

The oxygen and hydrogen isotope composition of water in the leaf growth-and-differentiation zone of grasses is close to that of source water, much less enriched than previously supposed. This finding changes views on the isotopic environment for formation of leaf cellulose and surface wax, two important (paleo)environmental and physiological proxies.
