What is it about?
Virtual Medical Consultation unlike telemedicine allows for consultation based on another physcians assessment and blood results and or other investigations e.g. ultrasound or ambulatory blood pressure. It also allows for assessment without the person having to be present. This study looks at using VMC as an alternative to face to face consultations for chronic conditions.

Why is it important?
With increasing chronic diseases being a burden on healthcare systems and long wait times for patients to see a specialist, more effective and time saving methods need to be considered for patient management. We also need to see how we can genuinely make the availability of internet of greater value for doctors and people who want to access them. This study aims to provide evidence that this type of consultation is safe and non inferior.
Perspectives
This is a study using the concept of virtual medical consultation to allow communication between a specialist and a primary care physician e.g. general practitioner for chronic disease conditions without the patient having to be seen face to face i.e. the established method of clinical review
