What is it about?

Does not the question of the well-being, authentic liberation and development of human beings consist the aspects that Christian-Muslim theology of dialogue must consider? In what ways could the Catholic Church’s position enhance and foster authentic human development even through her relationship with the religious other? A theology of dialogue rooted in the event of the divine self-communication is borne of empathy and hospitality. We have argued that though differently appropriated by Christians and Muslims, the single notion of God’s gift of his will, guidance and God-self is for their salvation. It is to provide them with the guidance and knowledge of himself, of the life of God in relation to their existence as human beings. The issue at stake is whether the idea of salvation of human beings does not consist a positive point of entry in Christian-Muslim dialogue.

Why is it important?

The paper proposes a theology of dialogue which understands the world and human beings as the realm of encounter necessitating the divine salvific activity. We fostered the idea that the human existential context necessitates faith-based initiatives towards inter-religious dialogue and peace building and shows how it is a crucial aspect of religious belief of Islam and Christianity.

Perspectives

I hope this paper stimulates more insight into the on-going theology of interreligious dialogue as not just about affirmation of religious beliefs, but even more, the establishment of a link between belief and praxis.
