What is it about?
The biosynthetic pathways for amino acids have been exploited for a long time in molecular biology. This work resolves an number of questions relating to the biosynthesis of both D- and L-Alanine in Bacillus subtilis and also identified the gene encoding permease that permits Bacillus to assimilate both L- and D-alanine from the environment.
