What is it about?

Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) is the second major carbon-fixing enzyme in Cyanobacteria, required to refill the TCA cycle and to convert phosphoenol pyruvate to pyruvate via a malate shunt. Here we show that the global metabolic control protein PII binds to PEPC and regulates its activity. PII-ATP activates PEPC and this activation is counteracted by 2-oxoglutarate.
