What is it about?
Virulence and pathogenicity of the bacterium Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, the causative agent of enzootic pneumonia in pigs, have never been fully understood. We present for the first time two possible links between metabolism and virulence in M. hyopneumoniae that might help to understand this pathogen and control the disease.

Why is it important?
Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae is a costly pathogen for pig industry. To better understand its virulence mechanisms will allow us to prevent or control the disease in the future.
Perspectives
We continue to study the interaction between the pig and the bacterium and hope in the future to better understand and prevent this disease in pig herds worldwide.
