What is it about?
We all want to feel like we belong and are appreciated at our workplace. Health science professionals treat patients but they can also teach students. Are they real teachers though? Do they say, "I am a teacher" when asked what they do? And what effect does their workplace environment have on this "I am..." statement? Can we do things to help these professionals feel more like real teachers and to help them be better teachers? Yes!

Why is it important?
It shows the effect of workplace on teacher identity and openness to improve as a teacher. It helps faculty development to consider the circumstances in which our teachers teach and provides suggestions on what we can do better to meet the needs of these teachers. In response, this could improve student conditions for learning.
Perspectives
It explores the needs of teachers who are not well-represented in research (sessional, adjunct).
