This articles helps teachers plan for and deliver instruction to improve sentence writing skills for struggling writers in the elementary grades. It provides guidance in assessment, planning instruction, and considering diversity in doing so.

Why is it important?

Writing supports learning across content areas, including reading. However, many students struggle with foundational writing skills like constructing a variety of sentences.


Sentence-level writing is often over-looked in instruction and assessment but we hope this article will help teachers begin to prioritize it, especially for struggling writers.
