What is it about?
Tropical brown seaweed of Sargassum cristaefolium has been well known as one of effective immunostimulants for fish and crustaceans aquaculture. This study shown that hot-water extract of Sargassum cristaefolium orally administrated has effectively enhanced immune response, stress tolerance and resistance of penaeid shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei to Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection. This finding might has been useful as one of ways to solve disease problems in L. vannamei production.

Why is it important?
Adding hot-water extract of tropical brown seaweed, Sargassum cristaefolium in diets in this study significantly improved health status of white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. A better shrimp performance in terms of immune cells response, stress tolerance and resistance to Vibrio parahaemolyticus was found when the shrimp consumed the diets containing S. cristaefolium extract. This finding is important to lower mortality risk in penaeid shrimp, L. vannamei aquaculture to Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection.
Perspectives
I was happy to publish the article with my research colleagues in evaluation of using hot-water extract of brown seaweed, Sargassum cristaefolium as medicated feeds for white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. I am ready to collaborate to do research in similar topic for the future to other authors.
