What is it about?

Alternaria brassicae caused black spot disease in Brassica Species and resulted considerable yield losses. No resistance is available till date so far. Dirrent isolates from India were tested for pathogenic variability using Seed, Cotyledon and Leaf of Brassica species to find out the aggressive isolate.

Why is it important?

Screening of oilseed Brassica breeding material can be tested against aggressive isolate of Alternaria brassicae could provide better resistance against this pathogen.

Perspectives

Screening at different growth stages of Brassica species against Alternaria brassicae was find find first time. Here, the technique adopted for screening at cotyledonary stage is simple, cheap and effective. After correlating the pathogen infection at different growth stages possibility of superior resistance increased.
