What is it about?

Poor sleep has a huge impact on children and their families, especially those living with complex conditions such as cerebral palsy. Standard questionnaires miss the unique aspects of each child and family. This paper reports what children and caregivers tell us about their sleep concerns. It is based on in-home interview and exploration, and describes the varied concerns across age groups and GMFCS levels.

Why is it important?

This paper shows that sleep factors are important for children at all GMFVS levels. Some factors change with age. Many children are affected by a combination of diverse biological, developmental and psychosocial factors.

Perspectives

This paper describes what I have found in clinical practice, and reflects families' description of the things that are important to them. I believe it's important to reinforce that we need to explore the sleep picture for each child, across all bio-psychosocial domains.
