Why is it important?

The findings obtained by this study may have clinical importance for the the clinical management of alcohol addiction. In addition to our study, previous reports have demontrated that St.-John's Wort prevents alocohol preference in rats. Therefore, it seems quite possible that St.-John's Wort preparations may be useful therapeutic modality for the treatment of alcoholism due to its dual effects both on alcohol preference (craving for alcohol) and alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

Perspectives

We hope that this paper along with previous reports will be of interest of clinicians, who have been working on the clinical management of alcoholism. This may provide a more natural solution of an old problem of our societies.
