This paper is a report of a study to increase understanding of patients’ experience of rehabilitation and their self-reported needs in that context.

Why is it important?
Nurses need to be able to recognize patient needs to plan effective and individualized care. Needs-led nursing care is emphasized in the nursing literature,but few studies in rehabilitation have explored needs from the patient’s perspective. Perspectives
Writing this article was part of my MS thesis in nursing from RCN and Akureyri University. My tutor, Professor Sigridur Halldorsdottir, guided my work and provided invaluable support. I had worked in the speciality of Rehabilitation Nursing for 20 years and this study gave me a better insight in my profession and a lot of empowerment.
