What is it about?

A participatory action research (PAR) on the combination of generalist and specialist social work with the aim of altering the counselling practices within social work organisations offering activation services and empowering both social workers and the clients they work with. At the heart of our PAR approach lay training sessions conceptualised as dialogue moments between social workers and people living in poverty.

Why is it important?

Scrutinising how the strengths of generalist and specialist social work can be combined within one organisation is essential to address the limitations of ongoing specialisation within the field of social work and enables counselling practices to be better tailored to the complex needs of disadvantaged target groups.

Perspectives

I want to emphasise the strenght of participatory approaches and draw attention to the importance of a sound collaborative research process and to the significant roles of the social workers and people living in poverty in this process. Without the participation of both, the research would not have been possible.
