What is it about?
This essay concerns the doctrine of "inseparable operations" (opera Trinitatis ad extra indivisa sunt, servato ordine et discrimine personarum), or the unity of the Trinity's works in history. I offer a reading of the traditional scholastic axiom summarizing this doctrine, suggesting that the unity of the Trinity's works gives a prominent place to the distinction and order of the divine persons. Contrary to some critics of the doctrine, then, I argue that it enables us to affirm that what God is for us reflects who God is in himself and that this is especially good news.
