What is it about?

The study was designed to address two major environmental concerns, i.e., rice straw burning (stubble burning) in Northern India and the non-biodegradability of synthetic plastic. It involves the valorization of rice straw via production of biopolymeric films loaded with its constituent polymer (lignin) and assessment of film properties for their application in food packaging.

Why is it important?

The innovative way of generating rice straw lignin based bioplastics or biopolymeric films which can easily degrade and has the ability to replace normal plastic is the pathbreaking aspect of the study. As these films were observed to be antibacterial, antioxidant and biodegradable, they can be explored further as bioplastics to replace plastic wraps in food packaging.


With the help of this article we have tried to address the issue of rice straw burning and non-biodegradability of synthetic plastic. It would be very interesting to see the actual applicability of such films in food packaging. I reallly hope that the readers find this article intresting and informative.
