What is it about?
To assess the effects of ursodeoxycholic acid composite (URSA-S) on fatigue in patients with elevated liver function tests and/or fatty liver disease. URSA-S is effective for alleviating fatigue in patients with liver dysfunction and/or fatty liver. The adverse effects of URSA-S are not significant.

Why is it important?
Urosodeoxycholic acid composite taken for 8 weeks was effective for alleviating fatigue in patients with liver dysfunction and/or fatty liver. When analyzed separately in patients with abnormal liver function tests and fatty liver disease, the fatigue recovery rate was higher in the therapy than in the placebo group. Adverse effects of URSA-S were not significant. Urosodeoxycholic acid composite is useful to reduce fatigue irrespective of the change of liver function tests.
Perspectives
Urosodeoxycholic acid composite can be prescribed to alleviate fatigue in patients with abnormal liver function tests (but less than 5 times of upper limits) and/or fatty liver disease. It should be taken for 8 weeks to be effective.
