Why is it important?

This article is important because feminists have hitherto ignored the impact that sexism in surfing has on the motility of surfers. Furthermore, the eroticized image of a surfer girl has, in some instances, been praised as a feminist icon. By showing how women might be negatively impacted by surf culture this article offers cautionary message to women surfers.

Perspectives

I have been an avid surfer for my entire life. Certain things about the culture bother me. This article is my first attempt to offer a critique of surf culture.
