What's it like to engage with changing political power? What does the state look like to ordinary people? Who wins and who loses from interacting? How do 'formal' and 'informal' relationships play out?

Why is it important?

There are few detailed qualitative studies about what is currently happening locally in communities in Bangladesh. This article reports from one of the few long term re-studies that compares three locations in the mid 2000s with the situation today.

Perspectives

I have very much enjoyed working with Dr Abul Hossain on this study - carrying out research in a combination of 'outsider' and 'insider' social scientist is a very satisfying way to work.
